Copper Peptides: The Peptides Not to be Missed! – Skin Management System by Dr. Strauss

One of our recent blogs highlights the importance of copper in Neodermyl®. Because there are many varieties of peptides available in skin care products it is important to understand what makes copper peptides different.

In order for collagen and elastin to be stabilized in the extracellular matrix, the fibrils must be properly cross-linked to each other. This crosslinking is dependent on the modifications to the collagen and elastin precursors by the enzyme lysyl oxidase.

Lysyl oxidase is dependent on copper in order to function, thereby maintaining the integrity of collagen and elastin. The importance of copper for this enzyme’s function has been established in animal studies in which copper deficiency leads to diseases correlated to improper crosslinking of collagen and elastin. So in order for collagen and elastin to function in our skin it is essential for copper to be available.

By incorporating copper peptides into skin care products, the function of this enzyme and maintenance of the collagen network is ensured. However, it is important to incorporate it along with other peptides to provide optimal anti-aging effects. That is why Neodermyl® has been incorporated into Skin Management System by Dr. Strauss along with other essential peptides.
