Enhancing the Extracellular Matrix in the Dermis with MDI Complex® – Skin Management System by Dr. Strauss

Extracellular matrix is a collection of molecules secreted by the cells of which it surrounds. The dermis contains an extracellular matrix composed of a dense collagen and elastin network, responsible for giving our skin a firm, smooth appearance. However with age, or environmental stress, the integrity of this collagen network diminishes.

One of the reasons behind this loss of integrity is the excessive activity of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) which occurs with age or stress. MMPs degrade the collagen network, which leads to the development of wrinkles and fine lines. This is why MDI Complex® has been incorporated into so many of Skin Management System by Dr. Strauss’ products.

MDI Complex® inhibits 80% of MMPs which helps maintain equilibrium of the extracellular matrix. With MMPs inhibited, the abundance of collagen in the dermis increases, which will give rise to firmer, smoother skin.
